If Not Now, When? Ending Violence Against the World’s Children

Neglect, Exploitation and Violence, Poverty and Inequality

This paper by New York University’s Center on International Cooperation, has been prepared as a contribution to the debate about implementation of a new global development agenda to replace the Millennium Development Goals from 2016-2030. It focuses on the delivery of targets to end the epidemic of violence, exploitation and neglect that blights the lives of children across the world, with the greatest impacts affecting the most vulnerable.

This publication coincides with the launch of a major campaign by UNICEF UK. It adds background and further detail to the campaign report and builds on recent landmark UNICEF publications providing data on the scale of violence against children and proposing strategies for tackling the problem.

The paper also draws on the Global Violence Reduction Conference 2014, hosted by the World Health Organization and the Violence Research Centre of the University of Cambridge, with the support of the UBS Optimus Foundation and participation from the world’s leading experts in the violence prevention field.
