“Yes! I Love to Learn”: Education in Children’s Own Words

Education, Participation and Self-expression

ATD Fourth World, an Equity for Children partner within the Global Coalition to End Child Poverty, recently published, Yes! I love to Learn. This book is a compilation of messages from children about their learning experiences.

Although learning is an essential part of their daily lives, many factors impede this process. The children, who come from different walks of life, including extreme poverty and social exclusion, explained that they do not learn just in school. Above all, they learn from people around them: within their families, with their friends, and in their activities. But to unleash their potential, certain conditions have to be met; simply enrolling a child in school does not guarantee he or she will be able to stay there and learn.

This book is intended for those who are interested in the reflections of children on their experience and aspirations in terms of learning, and especially for those responsible for education and the rights of children. The foreword is by Marta Santos Pais, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Violence Against Children.
