On Monday, November 2, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Ambassadors and State Representatives from around the world viewed an Equity for Children In First Person video that was presented at a United Nations event entitled: “Financing for Development in the Era of COVID-19 and Beyond”. Discussants from civil society organizations met with the UN Secretary-General to take action about recovering from the pandemic and developing systemic solutions to address growing economic instability.
Equity for Children’s In First Person video of Mrs. Maritza Pfuño Diaz, a Peruvian woman who lives with her two sons and daughter in the most populous district of Lima, put a personal face on the harsh realities that vulnerable families face during Covid-19. Anita Thomas, Chair of the United Nation’s NGO Committee on Financing for Development, said of Equity for Children’s video: “It is amazing how advocacy gets leveraged to a whole different level when Civil Society Organizations come together instead of working in silos.”
Equity for Children produces research and evidence-based advocacy to inform policies and programs that improve the wellbeing of children worldwide. In First Person is an audiovisual project that gives voice to dire problems experienced currently by vulnerable families across 15 Latin American cities. This project shines a light on individual experiences and narratives but speaks to the ways in which communities are working to counter the effects of Covid-19 to help families in need.
