Adolescent Girls — Cornerstone of Society Conference | Keynote Speech by Marta Mauras

The 5th International UNICEF-GPIA Conference was held at the New School on April 26-28, 2010. The conference was a     huge success with over 300 participants from over 20 different countries, representing several organizations.

One of the keynote speeches was delivered by Ms. Marta Mauras, a CRC expert, who reminded the participants of the two factors of invisibility of adolescent girls; Gender and Age. Ms. Mauras also stated that whether the focus in on adolescent girls or on boys, we must keep in mind that adolescents need to be perceived as subjects of rights who are able to contribute to their society’s and to their personal development and that adolescents know their needs and priorities and can participate actively in decisions and policies that affect them.
