Equity for Children E-Newsletter. N° 44 | September | 2014

Dear Friends,

This month we highlight the importance of art and free play for a child’s development in our featured article “I Have a Dream” – an innovative and inspirational program that uses art  to empower children living in low income communities. This is only one aspect of “I Have a Dream’s” college preparedness program. Founded in 1986 by businessman Eugene M. Lang, the program has reached more than 15.000 children in the US and New Zealand. Anyone interested in “best practice” to promote children’s voices and educational outcomes in a creative way should read more about the power of this organization.

Our homepage features three new interviews in our “Approaches to Equity “ series, with profiles about internationally renowned researchers, their views of equity and key recommendations to positively impact policy, programming and research:

  • Miles Corak, Professor, University of Ottawa,
  • Alejandro Acosta, Director, International Center for Education and Human Development,
  • Emma Samman, Research Fellow, Overseas Development Institute.

SAVE THE DATE:  Please join us on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, 6-8 pm, for a special symposium entitled: “25 years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child – What can we do better? Lessons Learned from Young Lives”.
