Equity for Children attended the launch of the eleventh edition of the Keeping Track of New York City’s Children report, by the Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York (CCC).  The organization provides user-friendly data to the general public on the well-being of New York City’s children, identifying risks and opportunities to ensure that the necessary resources are in place to meet the needs of the city’s youngest and most vulnerable residents.

New York City is home of the largest population of children, almost 1.8 million, in the U.S. – almost twice the number of youths in Los Angeles, California, the second largest youth population. However, increasing disparities among children are alarming, leading to challenges in terms of access to education, health, housing and economic conditions, especially among Black and Hispanic youth.

The presentation was rich in participation, while the panelists presented highlights on housing and homelessness, education and child welfare in the five boroughs of New York City.

In addition, Equity for Children had the opportunity to speak further with CCC’s Executive Director, Jennifer March, who gave us an exclusive interview on the major challenges and opportunities that New York City’s children face.
