Equity for Children E-Newsletter. N° 55 | December 2015/January 2016

Dear friends,

On November 19, over 120 practitioners, academics, elementary and high school students attended Equity for Children’s “Climate Change, Cities and Youth Engagement” thought-provoking panel discussion at The New School.  The afternoon session highlighted young people’s voice in tackling climate change.

“Youth can be the fuel in the engine that makes action happen,” emphasized Our Children’s Trust’s Alex Loznak, one of four adolescents participating in the innovative all-youth panel and open discussion.  I want to thank those of you who supported the event, which you can read more and watch a video about here.

Our case studies about good practice in youth-led and youth-focused initiatives addressing climate change are posted on our website, including the latest one about the Pacific Islands here.

As 195 nations focus on implementing the adopted climate agreement from the December Paris Climate Conference, read EFC Senior Advisor Samantha Cocco-Klein’s Huffington Post article advocating the importance of children and youth voice in negotiations and decision-making here.

In November, Equity for Children joined the Global Coalition to End Child Poverty, launched recently at United Nations Headquarters in New York.  Led by UNICEF and Save the Children, the coalition is composed of international organizations such as the World Bank Group, World Vision and Young Lives at Oxford University who recognize the extent of child poverty around the world and are supporting practical actions to alleviate it.  Find out more about this initiative here.

I wish you and yours a peaceful and fulfilling holiday season and a Happy New Year! Thank you for your support and I look forward to updating you with more exciting news in 2016.

Sincerely,

Alberto
