Equity for Children E-Newsletter. N° 57 | March/April | 2016

Dear friends,

Equity for Children will host a two-day conference, “Urban Inequities and Children”, on April 28-29, 2016,  examining key issues of child poverty and inequality in cities, including urban design and municipal action. The two-day event will feature an open forum, “Addressing Urban Inequities in Childhood”, on April 28 at 4:30pm and a closed, smaller session on April 29 with high-level, topical discussion addressing child inequities through the lens of practical, current projects.

Local government representatives, practitioners, philanthropists and academics will attend, and the conversation will emphasize the particular situations of New York City and Bogota, Colombia.  For more information, to register for the April 28 open forum or to access the livestream, click here.  You must register to attend the conference.

A majority of Latin America’s children, by 2025, will live in cities but will face social inequality, deteriorating climate and increasing informal settlements.  Read the 10 steps Veronica Bagnoli, Latin America Director of Equidad para la Infancia, and I recommend to address these concerns here.

Youth have a unique experience of climate change and their voices raise awareness about the issue in unique and persuasive ways:

  • Read the latest in our series of case studies on climate change and youth engagement, highlighting climate camps in China that aim to develop youth leadership, here.
  • “Ultimately, the drivers of change are young people”, avowed Alex Loznak, an 18-year-old youth activist at Our Children’s Trust, during an Equity for Children interview.  Watch it here.

Thank you for your continued interest and I hope to see you at our conference on April 28. If you have any questions about it please feel free to contact to me here.

Sincerely,

Alberto
