This publication, co-edited by Equity for Children Executive Director, Alberto Minujin, is the product of an international seminar organized
in February 2014 by Equity for Children and the Comparative Research Programme on Poverty (CROP), University of Bergen, Norway, with the support of the Social Sciences and Health Program at the Latin American Social Sciences University (FLACSO), Mexico, the Institute of Legal Investigations at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico and the National Electoral Institute (INE), Mexico.
The central purpose of the book is to emphasize the relevance of the debate on poverty in Latin America, particularly in regards to childhood and adolescence, within current global discussions about justice, freedom, citizenship, identity, participation and peace. It also aims to foster efforts in the region to generate original thought, based on local populations’ resilience, problem-solving abilities, creative vision and innovative capacity for designing and implementing social policies. The book considers Latin America as a geopolitical point of reference and as a space for social inclusion, promoting peaceful coexistence among its people, with a particular focus on child wellbeing.
