A new review of the Handbook of Child Poverty and Inequality, edited by Alberto Minujin and Enrique Delamonica, has been published on the Center for Global Development website and is also featured in the journal Population and Development Review. The review highlights the Handbook’s broad and timely contribution to one of the most pressing global challenges: understanding, measuring, and ultimately ending child poverty in all its forms. Bringing together 29 chapters and a wide range of international perspectives, the volume examines monetary and multidimensional child poverty, inequality, social protection, access to services, and emerging areas of concern such as children’s time poverty, disability, gender-specific deprivation, and the importance of children’s own voices.
The review underscores the Handbook’s value for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners by showing how child poverty affects not only children’s present lives, but also their long-term development and opportunities. It also recognizes the editors’ commitment to bringing together diverse approaches, methods, and policy debates, reinforcing the need for child-sensitive social protection, high-quality public services, and inclusive growth strategies.
