Patricia from Mexico: In First Person – Stories of Community and Resilience

Patricia migrated from Mexico with her husband in search of safety and opportunity for their son. Despite loneliness, discrimination, and financial hardship, she found strength through community and built a new life rooted in hope and belonging.

Patricia came to the United States from Mexico with her husband, determined to create a safer future and broader opportunities for their son. Like many migrant families, they faced financial challenges, language barriers, and the emotional toll of leaving loved ones behind.

The transition was not easy. Patricia experienced loneliness, uncertainty, and moments of discrimination. Yet through connections with other mothers, neighbors, friends, and community organizations, she found support, friendship, and a sense of belonging in her new home.

Today, Patricia volunteers in her community and helps others facing similar challenges. She is raising her son to be bilingual, proud of his cultural heritage, respectful of diversity, and committed to building a more just and compassionate world. Her story highlights the importance of community, resilience, and ensuring that migrant families have the support they need to thrive.
